This training is designed to equip play therapists with practical skills and strategies to enhance therapeutic connection and communication using board games and various toys, including puppets, dress-up, and dollhouses. Participants will explore the therapeutic powers of play and learn how to effectively integrate these tools into their practice to facilitate emotional expression, build rapport, and support the therapeutic process. By the end of the training, therapists will have a deeper understanding of how to utilize these play materials to create a safe and engaging environment that fosters growth and healing for their clients.

Objectives: 

  • Understanding of how play therapy promotes emotional expression, problem-solving, and resilience in children.
  • Learn techniques for incorporating board games into sessions to facilitate communication, teach social skills, and enhance the therapeutic alliance.
  • Discover ways to explore narratives and themes using toys, puppets and dress up to help children project their feelings, navigate social situations, and develop coping strategies.
  • Develop skills to create a safe and supportive therapeutic environment that fosters trust and rapport through the use of play-based interventions.
  • Learn to customize play therapy techniques to meet the unique developmental and emotional needs of each invividual child.
  • Practice ways to deepen the play therapy process and therapeutic work while case conceptualization using best practices.

Light lunch and snacks will be provided. 

You can bring your lunch if food allergies/restrictions are a concern.
