Participants will gain an understanding of the foundational principles and techniques of play therapy and sandtray therapy, specifically tailored for application in school settings. They will learn how to effectively integrate these therapeutic approaches into their counseling practice to support the emotional and behavioral needs of students. By the end of the training, participants will be equipped with practical strategies to create a therapeutic environment that fosters student growth and resilience through play-based interventions. Additionally, they will explore case studies and participate in hands-on activities to deepen their skills in utilizing these methods. Participants will also learn how to collaborate with teachers and parents to ensure a cohesive approach to student well-being.
Objectives:
- Understand the basic principles and theoretical underpinnings of play therapy and sandtray therapy, with a focus on their application in school environments.
- Learn specific play therapy and sandtray techniques that can be used to address common emotional and behavioral issues among students.
- Develop skills in case conceptualization and treatment planning using play therapy and sandtray, tailored to the unique needs of individual students.
- Integrate play therapy and sandtray interventions and strategies with emotional and social goals, enhancing overall student performance and well-being.
- Explore playful and creative methods for collaborating with teachers, parents, and other school personnel to create a supportive and cohesive approach to student mental health.
- Adapt play therapy and sandtray techniques to be culturally sensitive and inclusive, meeting the diverse needs of the student population.
- Practice assessing the effectiveness of play therapy and sandtray interventions and use outcome data to refine their approaches and demonstrate the impact on student well-being.
- Develop playful guidance lessons, creative lunch bunch/groups and stimulating social-emotional activities that promote self regulation, a positive environment and safe ambiance in a school setting.Â
- Practice how to effectively use play therapy and sandtray techniques in crisis intervention situations to help students cope with immediate stressors and traumatic events.
Light lunch and snacks will be provided.
